Description
Albert Bichot Cremant de Bourgogne Rosé NV
This non-vintage Crémant de Bourgogne Rosé is a meticulously crafted blend composed of 80% Pinot Noir, with the remaining 20% comprised of Chardonnay and Gamay. The Pinot Noir is primarily sourced from the limestone and calcareous clay soils of the Côte Chalonnaise, providing structure and red fruit intensity. The Chardonnay hails from the cool climate of the Auxerrois region, contributing freshness and floral elegance, while the Gamay, sourced from the Mâconnais, adds a touch of vibrancy. As a non-vintage cuvée, the wine is engineered for consistency, prioritizing a distinct house style over the variability of a single growing season.
Winemaking follows the traditional method (Méthode Traditionnelle), mirroring the techniques of Champagne. The base wines undergo primary fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats for 8 to 9 months to preserve the purity of the fruit. Following blending, the wine undergoes a secondary fermentation in the bottle. It is then aged on its lees (sur lattes) for a minimum of 12 months, followed by an additional 3 months of rest after disgorgement. This extended contact imparts a refined texture and complexity. The dosage is set between 8 and 10 g/L, ensuring a balanced Brut profile.
In the glass, the wine reveals a luminous medium pink color with soft salmon reflections and a persistent bead of fine, energetic bubbles. The nose is expressive and fresh, dominated by primary aromas of crushed raspberries, wild strawberries, and blackcurrant, lifted by zesty notes of tangerine and lime. Underlying these fruit-forward scents are subtle secondary notes of brioche and fresh yeast, a testament to its time on the lees. On the palate, this Crémant is dry and medium-bodied, anchored by a spine of crisp, racy acidity that drives the structure. Flavors of tart red currant and white cherry intermingle with a mineral edge, leading to a clean, creamy finish of medium length that leaves a refreshing sensation of citrus zest.
This wine creates excellent versatility at the table, particularly with American cuisine. It pairs exceptionally well with Southern fried chicken, where the wine's sharp acidity and effervescence cut through the richness of the breading and fat while highlighting the savory spices. Alternatively, try it with a classic American Cobb salad; the red berry notes complement the bacon and avocado without overpowering the delicate greens. It is also a delightful match for a Maine lobster roll, balancing the sweet meat and creamy dressing.
Critically recognized for its value and quality, this Crémant has received 88 points from Wine Enthusiast and 87 points from Wine Spectator. It represents an outstanding quality-to-price ratio, offering a sophisticated and authentic Burgundian sparkling experience at a fraction of the cost of Champagne.
