Description
Chateau Maris Rosé Pays D'OC 2024 is a vibrant and meticulously crafted expression of the Languedoc, composed of a blend of 65% Grenache and 35% Syrah. The 2024 growing season was characterized by a mild winter and a wet spring, followed by a temperate summer that allowed for extended hangtime; this slow ripening process preserved vital acidity while achieving full phenolic maturity despite lower overall yields. The fruit is sourced from the estate's biodiverse vineyards within the Minervois La Livinière cru, where vines are rooted in complex terraces of schist, sandstone, limestone, and clay, benefited by the cooling influence of winds sweeping down from the Pyrenees.
Visually, the wine presents a delicate, slightly peachy-pink hue with excellent clarity. The nose is aromatic and expressive, revealing layers of fresh raspberry, lemon flowers, wild strawberry, and a hint of white peach. On the palate, this rosé is light-bodied and decidedly dry, zipping with energy and freshness. Flavors of bright red berry fruit and citrus zest are interwoven with springtime blossoms, all supported by a distinct, savory spine of minerality that drives a crisp, refreshing finish.
Château Maris is a global leader in environmental stewardship, operating with a philosophy that wine is "grown, not made." The estate holds both organic (Ecocert) and biodynamic (Demeter, Biodyvin) certifications, employing traditional practices such as horse-powered plowing to maintain soil vitality. Winemaker Robert Eden utilizes the direct press method for this vintage, fermenting with native yeasts in concrete vats to preserve fruit purity within their carbon-negative winery constructed of hemp bricks. The Tasting Panel awarded this vintage a score of 91 points, highlighting its juicy character and energetic profile, marking it as an affordable standout in its class.
The wine's bright acidity and fresh fruit profile make it an exceptional match for American-leaning fare. It pairs beautifully with grilled shrimp skewers marinated in lemon and herbs, as the wine's citrus notes complement the char and seasoning perfectly. It is also an ideal companion for a summer salad featuring strawberries, goat cheese, and a light vinaigrette, where the wine's red berry character harmonizes with the fresh ingredients.
