Description
Lubanzi CANS Chenin Blanc – 2024
This distinctively packaged wine is composed of 100% Chenin Blanc sourced from the rugged Swartland region of South Africa, where dry-farmed bush vines over 20 years of age root deeply into decomposed granite and shale soils. The 2024 growing season was notably warm and dry, facilitating even ripening and superb concentration, which results in a wine that pours a gorgeous, clear deep gold. The aromatic profile is vibrant and expressive, offering primary notes of lemongrass, nectarine, and green melon, accented by a tropical hint of passionfruit. On the palate, this is a dry, medium-bodied wine featuring flavors of ripe summer peaches, pear, and a distinct lemon peel tang, all supported by six months of aging on fine lees in stainless steel which adds textural complexity. A zesty acidity drives the finish, lingering with a savory, straw-like minerality that reflects its wild yeast fermentation and low-intervention winemaking. Produced by a certified B Corp, Carbon Neutral, and Fair for Life winery that donates 50% of net profits to farm workers, this vintage has already secured a 90-point score from James Suckling. For food pairings, the crisp acidity beautifully cuts through the richness of a classic American lobster roll on a toasted brioche bun, while its fruit-forward profile provides a refreshing, cooling contrast to the spice of Nashville hot chicken.
