Description
Bodega Bagordi Barón De Pardo Crianza 2022
This classic Rioja is predominantly Tempranillo, blended with small amounts of Graciano and Mazuelo to add structural complexity and color. The 2022 vintage was historically hot and dry, necessitating an early harvest to preserve acidity, though vines situated along the moderating Ega and Ebro rivers yielded exceptionally healthy, concentrated fruit. In the glass, the wine displays an intense, bright red cherry color with medium viscosity. The nose is highly aromatic, bursting with primary notes of crushed raspberry and redcurrant, seamlessly layered with secondary vanilla spice, black pepper, and cedar from its time in barrel. On the palate, this is a dry, medium-bodied wine that balances vibrant red fruit flavors with a refreshing streak of acidity and lively, supple tannins that lead to a pleasantly persistent finish. The Carcar family, tending these lands for 14 generations, utilizes certified organic and sustainable farming practices, aging this cuvée for 12 months in French oak barrels to perfectly integrate fruit and wood. For food pairings, it shines alongside rich, slow-cooked birria tacos, where the wine's peppery spice cuts through the savory consommé, and is equally fantastic with smoked beef brisket or a classic grilled ribeye steak, as the tannins effortlessly complement the rendered fat. While it currently lacks formal scores from major publications like Wine Advocate or Wine Spectator, it is widely celebrated as an exceptional value, offering the depth of a well-crafted, organic Rioja Crianza at a highly affordable price point.
